FLOODING

Posted on: 19th Dec 2019

Upper Meon

Flood Alert

Water levels in the River Meon are high. In the last 24 hours, 28mm of rain has been recorded at Warnford. This follows 3.5 months of above average rainfall. At East and West Meon, river levels are now falling but still high at Wickham. This evening and early Friday 20/12/2019, further heavy rain of up to 20mm is forecast. As water levels are already elevated, this additional rainfall will cause the river to rise rapidly. Surface water and river flooding may impact roads at East Meon, West Meon, Shoe Lane and Church Lane (Exton) and Bucks Head Hill at Meonstoke. The river may come out of bank at the Millennium Water Meadows, Wickham. Our operational staff are keeping the river free of blockages and flood banks working as designed. Over the next 24 hours, the river will be much higher than normal. Residents in lower lying properties should remain prepared for flooding. We will update this Flood Alert by 11:00 on Friday 20/12/2019.

This information last updated 3:39pm, Thursday 19th December.
